Strategic Career Planning Consultant

GCQA’s SCPC certification recognizes individuals who have advanced knowledge and skills in career planning. Not only have they completed specialized training in career development, but SCPCs have extensive experience in applying knowledge to help diverse client populations with a variety of needs.

History and Foundation

Credentialing of career development professionals has existed since the early 1980s. However, the world of work has dramatically changed in recent years.

Three significant events occurred to transform the current work environment

  • Digital technology advances.
  • Workers’ expectations and values.
  • Economic changes globally.

Combined these influences resulted in increased

  • Employee mobility (i.e., Workers tend to stay in a particular job for less amounts of time than previous generations of employees).
  • Number of requests for workplace flexibility.
  • Need for workers to continue to expands skills and respond to new challenges.
  • Interest self-employment.
  • Entrepreneurial interests.

Recognizing the need to address the significant changes, Global Career Quality Assurance created a new advanced credential, the Strategic Career Planning Consultant (SCPC). SCPCs possess specific career training to help clients strategically navigate the ever-changing global work environments.

SCPC Competencies

  • Communication Skills: Communicating with clients to promote career exploration and planning.
  • Workforce Information and Trends: Locating and organizing employment and career trends.
  • Evaluation: Using measurement methods appropriate for career decision making.
  • Unique Attributes: Appreciating the individual’s context, including culture, age, experience, special needs, and ambitions to assist in decision making.
  • Business Conduct: Recognizing and responding professionally to challenges presented during service provision.
  • Innovations in Careers: Incorporating new visions of the global workplace and remembering historical career exploration methods.
  • Training Design: Designing programs that assist groups explore, adjust or manage career options.
  • Marketing: Promoting career services to potential clients and employers.
  • Electronic applications: Using appropriate current technology and artificial intelligence in career services.
  • Career Resource Development: Continually developing a bank of career-related resources and contacts.
  • Collaborative Efforts: Identifying and using skills and techniques to promote achievement of goals as a collective group.
  • Perspective Balancing: Assisting clients to balance careers with other personal interests and goals.
  • Job Search Processes: Utilizing job search and placement processes appropriate for the 21st century and environment.
  • Managing Career Paths: Identifying and designing plans to assist clients to launch or adapt career paths.
  • Leadership: Incorporating knowledge and skills to guide individuals, teams or other groups.
  • Value Identification: Recognizing clients’ strengths and accomplishments in order to assist clients to clarify their value to potential employers.
  • Entrepreneurism: Guiding the client to create and incubate new employment possibilities and services in creative ways.

Application Requirements

Education

College degree or above (exceptions: CDA, IAEVG, GCDF and more credential holders).

OR High School Diploma or some higher education (Must have a minimum of 5 years or 8,000 hours of Work Experience).

Training Requirement

Complete SCPC training in all required SCPC competency modules Alternative: Applicants who have completed training in identified SCPC competency areas may request review and receive a possible waiver for some modules.

Post Competency Training Career Assistance Experience

Applicants with college degree complete 200 hours following all module training OR Applicants with high school degree complete 500 hours following all module training.

2 Case Presentations Illustrating Diverse Skills with Multiple Clients.

Application Life

Applications must be completed within two years of initial submission.

Certification Maintenance

Careers and the way people work continue to evolve, and it is important to SCPCs to continue to develop their skills in order to best assist clients and future clients. GCQA recognizes different learning strategies and has developed the following as options for SCPCs to incorporate new concepts or skills, reexamine fundamental training and skills, and consider other types of services or skills for personal career enhancement.

Approved Maintenance Methods

  • Submit Written Reviews of Publications/Journal Articles (limited to identified subject areas).
  • Conduct Webinars of Specific Techniques or Approaches Related to an SCPC Competency.
  • Participate in Online Webinars or Other Distance Learning (limited to identified subject areas).
  • Publication of Written Work in Identified Subject Areas.
  • Attend an In-person Training or Workshop.
